I know this has happened to every Home Stager who has been in the business for a period of time, and although inevitably it will happen again, it always leaves an ever-so-slight sting when we get the call. "We're pulling the Staging." Now, I'm not talking about the sting to my wallet. I'm talking about the sting that I know what might happen to the listing once the Staging is removed.
In this particular instance Platinum Home Staging, Inc. Staged this home in Hollywood, CA that had been on the market for 2 YEARS with 4 different Agents and not a SINGLE OFFER. The new Realtor (#5) came in and knew that the home needed to look like a NEW LISTING after being on the market for so long, especially since the Sellers refused a price reduction. He even paid for the Staging knowing that it would ultimately help him to better market the home and gain a renewed interest with both Realtors and Buyers. In fact, just 3 days after listing, our Team returned to the home to do a slight "tweak" only to find prospective Buyers trying to look in through the windows because the open house wasn't until the next day.
Within 3 weeks they recieved 2 offers! AFTER 2 YEARS OF NADA - THEY GET 2 OFFERS!!! The Sellers, for whatever reason, refuse both of them. A short time later, they receive a THIRD OFFER - they even OPEN ESCROW - but the Buyer backed out just before contingencies because "His Manager & Accountant didn't like the lack of parking." Something nobody can change. (Yes, People. Celebs typically do not buy properties without the good graces of those who also have their hands in their wallets. We have dealt with this before)
But after the Realtor repeatedly showed them how GREAT the house looked compared to how it was being marketed with 4 other Realtors; how his Team had brought them 3 viable offers within weeks after NOTHING in 2 years; after actually being able to MARKET the home as a 3 bedroom + office, formal dining room & entertaining home (Instead of the mish-mosh that is was).... the Sellers decided that THEY didn't want to continue the Staging. You see, the REALTOR had been paying for it - their agreement was that it was now the Sellers turn to take it over.... and they refused. Keep in mind this Home Staging would have cost them less than $600 p/mo to continue and, yes, they DO have the money to afford it.
I guess it's going to go back to the way it was.
So you see, today is a sad day for me.... and the LREA.
