Dont Judge those who Default on their Mortgage or Short Sale in San Diego

Dont judge those who Default on their Mortgage

or Short Sale in San Diego

During the past 2 years, I have been personally blamed for the current San Diego mortgage crisis.

I letDefaulted on home these comments just blow through because I don’t accept a client unless I know he can comfortably afford a mortgage payment vs. what is the highest amount he could qualify for.

I also talk to the client about his future plans including contingency mortgage planning.

What does bother me, however, are those who automatically assume that anyone in San Diego who defaults on their mortgage or short sales their home has “carelessly lived beyond their means”, or “acted on their stupidity”, or were “never held accountable”. These quotes were taken from Active Rainers.

Please allow me to paint a bigger picture for you.

Default on loanMy friend’s husband died at young age leaving her to handle the mortgage on her own with 2 children. Another friend lost her job and scoured the streets for 10 months, finally settling on a part time job to buy groceries. Others have moved out of San Diego to find employment, forcing them to short sale their home.

Some have been told by "professionals" (attorneys, CPA’s, lenders) to go ahead and default on their mortgage. There's a multitude of sad stories. Many I tried helping with free loan modifications knowing that a lower mortgage payment might save the situation.

Sure, there are those that CAN afford their mortgage, but they want a break just like Joe Home Owner got. And yes, there were those that knew they were biting off a big chunk, but many were cleverly pushed into bigger loans by greedy and unethical "professionals" in the loan biz.

Judging those who defaultThe bottom line --- most people are forced to default on their mortgage or short sale their home because of unexpected, probably once in a lifetime, financially devastating event. It’s gripping the lives of your friends, your family members, and your fellow human beings. Where’s your compassion?

So please, I ask that you not judge a book by the mortgage cover.
