USS DEWEY To Be Comissioned In Orange County, March 6th

Exciting news, the very first Naval Ship is to be christened in Seal Beach, California. The event takes place this coming Saturday March 6th and I'll be attending the event. USS Dewey

The ship (DDG 105) was built at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in the gulf coast community of Pascagoula, Missippi. Pascagoula is one of those cities that I remember seeing on the news, one that was so hard hit by Katrina not that long ago. I'd imagine this is a very proud time for the hardworking shipbuilders of the Missipppi Gulf Coast region.

As an individual who is also a proud American, it's an exciting event to attend myself. As a group from Orange County who will be attending with our Cub Scout/Boy Scout group and I get to tag along to this ticketed event.

The Dewey is the Navy's newest and most technologically advanced guide missile destoryer. I can't wait to see this.

In contrast I can still remember the day I toured the USS Missouri, permanently anchored in Pearl Harbor, Hi. It was a bright sunny day as I walked around the wooden deck experiencing a moment in time dating back 50+ years. I can only imagine what's in store for our young Cub and Boy Scouts on Saturday.

Seal Beach, CA is one of those SoCal beach communites that I love for many reasons. Seal (to me) is almost a throw-back to the most wonderful California beaches in the Southland. It's where we spent many of our summers decades ago. Today the charm of Seal Beach truly endures.
