Not exactly the journey to the sun, but this rise in one of my much neglected websites can be attributed largely to one thing.
I have given little time to my own websites as of late. That's a good thing because I've been working for clients and helping out with the new twin grandchildren (oh did you miss out on the pictures?) You can see a few of them at my Orange County photographers website and a few here and on Dave Keys Picasa albums. (View My Public Gallery)
What finally motivated me was this. I decided to update the Wordpress theme of my photoblog. I wanted to feature more family and wedding photography and use a white theme- and I thought I'd see how it was doing in Google since I'd given up #5 position on Google for Orange County photographers because I really wanted to use the website that held that position for Orange County SEO. I changed keyword elements on the SEO website and it went to page two for photography and three for SEO. Some work lies ahead but lately there's been no time for that.
Meanwhile the website remaining for photography had stayed around pages three and four. Today I discovered that it had managed to sink out of view to page 35. Page 35 is penalty and neglect territory. I decided to make sure it was neglect so I added a new post and changed the title of the website to include the keyword or phrase, Orange County Photographers. Fifteen minutes later, the website arrived on page 3.
Not spectacular, but that's a lot of improvement for just changing the title of a website.
This underscores the importance of the <title> tag choice you make for any website or post.
And here's a picture of the twins:
