Los Peñasquitos Canyon

How to get there: Exit 15 Freeway on Mira Mesa Blvd. Head west and make a right on Black Mountain Rd. Follow it north and take a left on Canyonside Rd.

This 4.7 mile hike is rated as easy and takes around 4 hours. The elevation changes on this hike are minimal while the hiker is treated to waterfall and river views.

William Heise County Park

This 10.75 mile hike in Julian offers a variety of trails from easy to difficult. This 929 acre park is more than 4000 feet above sea level and offers mountains and a forest feel. There are even camp grounds here in case you'd like to stay a while.

Torrey Pines State Reserve - Razor Point Trail and Yucca Point Trail

Entry fee: $6

This La Jolla Hike is about an hour each. Razor point is 1.3 miles and Yucca Point is 1.25 miles. This hike is rated as easy and offers views overlooking the Pacific Ocean
