Santa Clarita to Add More Red Light Cameras

Red light cameras have been installed at various intersections within the City of Santa Clarita since 2002 in an attempt to reduce accidents and red light violations.

Soon the City will activate three more cameras at the following intersections: McBean/Valencia, Bouquet/Newhall Ranch and Sierra Highway/Soledad Canyon.

During the first year of the program, there was an 80% reduction in accidents involving red light violations and a 20% reduction in injury accidents at the intersections where the cameras were installed. All intersections go through a trial period when the cameras are first installed, where they generate violation notices but no fines. After the trial period ends, the fines are in excess of $300 per violation.

Getting your photo taken at an intersection is a lot like being on Candid Camera, only it's certainly no joke!
