Susan's ARK - Compassionate Pet Care in Murrieta

My wife Debbie and I went through a heart-wrenching experience last year. Due to a careless tooth extraction, our 11 year old cat Kiki suffered a torn trachea and ultimately died. It's an agony I wouldn't wish on anyone. I'm a firm believer, however, that every cloud has a silver lining. In our case, there were two.

Kiki

Kiki was my pal. I can't tell you how much I adored him. Debbie wrote a poem about him. He was playful, curious, loved cantaloupe and shrimp and at times was a brat. He came into our lives when he was six weeks old.

Last year during a routine exam, the vet said he had a rotten tooth that needed to come out. About two weeks later, we brought him back because his asthma was flaring up. The vet noticed that when they did the extraction that the root of the tooth was not fully removed and told us they would need to get it out because it was causing him pain. To make a long story short, the tech tore his trachea while intubating him and when we got him home he was puffed up like a beach ball. Five days later he was gone. We were devastated.

Two weeks later on a Saturday morning, we went to Petco. Animal Friends of the Valleys brings animal there for adoption each week. Debbie spotted a three month old black & white tuxedo kitty and said that he was the one. When I was holding him I asked a little girl what we should call him and she said "Domino". Domino

He has certainly added a spark of life to our home. He chases our 11 year old Rockie. RockieIn many ways he's more like a dog than a cat. He's extremely social. I can't imagine him not being with us. He's a perfect fit.

The second silver lining? When we adopted we agreed to have him neutered and get him his shots. We were directed to ARK Animal Hospital. Dr. Susan Anderson runs a wonderful, caring practice. They adore our Domino. I couldn't recommend a vet more highly.

Awww Tom. It's almost harder than losing a human. I lost my Totto-Chan two summers ago after 13 years and still fall apart and cry hard over him.

It is the circle of life. And coming around again to love another seems harder than it is. Domino is making it easy. He's a lucky boy :-)

I know how hard it is to loose a pet - I have been there too! It looks like you have somebody to put the smile back on your faces! And he has found a good home!

Tom, I'm sorry about Kiki.....Debbie's poem is beautiful. My brother and sister in law had a cat that they named Kiki too......this is only the second time I've ever heard that name.

Domino is a very handsome cat and Susan looks like a very happy vet who adores animals and her career !

Nice post....

Tom:  I am so sorry you lost your KiKi and how lucky Domino is.  I have a cocker of 12 years now and I cannot imagine life without her.  I'm glad you have Domino and Domino has you and your wife!  I had a cat that looked a lot like Domino.  She was one very smart cat and I miss her still toay after 7 years.  Heres' my poem about Boopi, my black cocker.

I stole the first line from  the "Eddie's Father" show (remember that one?)

People let me tell you 'bout my best friend, her name is Boopi and we'll be together 'til the very end
She likes to dig, she LOVES rocks, she eats like a pig and if you don't watch her, she'll steal your socks
She hops like a rabbit and has the sweetest habit of stealing your heart away - she stole my heart away
That ole' dog Snoopy's got nothin' on my Boopi; she's one of a kind; truly a rare find
Boopi, my precious K9   (Boop boop e do)  She is named after Betty Boop.  Ok, that's my sentimental moment for the night.

Jo - Many thanks. When I find the poem the emegecy hospital set me. I'll post it. Its about our ability o accept the unacceptable. Yes, Susan is wonderful.

Donna - Very sweet. It's amazing how they become family members, isn't it?

Hi,

I'm new to communicating this way but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your story and great photos! My son lived in Murrieta for a couple of years. How is the real estate market down there?

Cynthia - Welcome! The market is fabulous for buyers, and great for sellers who will list their properties realistically. I'm glad you stopped by.
