Located only 15 minutes up the coast from San Luis Obispo (half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco) you'll find the famous little Central Coast city of Morro Bay. Founded in 1870 as a port for the export of dairy and ranch products, Morro Bay now attracts tourists worldwide. A majority of vacationers come to visit Morro Bay, only to relocate to the Central Coast area. With over twenty years experience in real estate from Santa Barbara to Big Sur, I can assist you in finding that perfect Central Coast home!
Beautiful Central Coast Beaches? Morro Bay has some of the most scenic beaches on the Central Coast coastline. Although there are excellent beaches north and south of the town, the most popular beach is on the north side of Morro Rock, north of the harbor.
One of Morro Bay's most striking and famous feature is a 576 foot high volcanic plug, Morro Rock. The Rock (as locals call it) stands at the entrance to the harbor, connects to the shore and is the last in a chain of Central Coast inactive volcanos. Previously, it was surrounded by water, but the northern channel was filled in to make the harbor. There is no public access to the rock itself because it is a reserve for the locally endangered peregrine falcon. However, the area around the base of Morro Rock can be visited.
Bird watching? A portion of Morro Bay is also designated as a state and national bird sanctuary. This means it is illegal to kill or harm a bird in that portion of Morro Bay. It is also a state and national estuary. Every Martin Luther King weekend over 450 birders visit Morro Bay, considered a Globally Important Bird Area, to see, photograph, and learn more about birds in the Central Coast area.
Love to Shop? Morro Bay's Embarcadero is a unique shopping experience! Located along the Central Coast shoreline, you can stroll from shop to shop in search of that special gift. The diversity is amazing among these quaint shops. There is something for everyone here! Art galleries, novelty items, sea shells, imports, clothing, jewelry, salt water taffy (in every flavor you can think of!), an aquarium (yes, you can feed the seals here!) … you name it, you want it, you'll probably find it on the Central Coast Morro Bay Embarcadero!
Museum? Oh yes, Morro Bay even has a Museum of Natural History. The museum is located in Morro Bay State Park, on a bluff, over looking the bay and offers spectacular views of the bay and the "Rock". Set in a quiet and serene location, this Central Coast interactive museum has exhibits geared for kids ages 4 and up. This museum is highly recommended if you have children.
How's your Golf? Situated inside the State Park Estuary is the Morro Bay golf course. This golf course is one of the most prestgious and scenic Central Coast golf courses around and perfect for those who want to feel like they're playing at Pebble Beach, but at a fraction of the cost! The tree lined fairways and ocean views are stunning. The golf course offers all the amenities, including a well stocked pro shop, driving range, rental clubs, and lessons. There's even a bar & grill to complete your day!
Food, Food, Food! In my opinion, nothing compares to dining on a wonderful meal while watching a gorgeous sunset over the ocean. Or having lunch while watching sea otters swimming playfully beneath the restaurant window. What a unique dining experience! Morro Bay Embaracadero offers restaurant after restaurant of great food, great service, and great views! There is a vast variety of cuisine choices you choose from, in various price ranges. Another “something for everyone” scenerio!
I could write page after page about the wonders and attractions of the great Central Coast city of Morro Bay, California. Golfing, kayaking, whale watching, shopping, dining, beaches, bike riding, trails, bird watching, night clubs … the list goes on and on. You'll just have to COME SEE for yourself! Morro Bay is a wonderful, unique place to visit … and a great place to live!
