About the only positive that comes to my mind being in the midst of all this is that so far the loss of life has been minimal. The numbers boggle the mind... 500,000+ evacuated from their homes in San Diego County alone. At least 1,500 homes and businesses destroyed. At least 15 fires in 8 counties. We are still safe so far, but many of our neighbors have been hit hard.
I posted a picture from my driveway this morning. Here are two from this afternoon.

I took this shot on my way home from the office. Using the Kodak V705 in panoramic mode, this is the view looking southeast to west.

Veteran L.A. newscasters have been using the term "apocalyptic" and saying they have never seen anything like it. I hope I never see anything like it again.

Scary... thanks for keeping us updated.. be safe please!
Desiree -Scary indeed. We don't expect to be directly impacted. Thanks for your concern.
Tom, It is frightening, to say the least. I hope that the widespread droughts alleviate and things do not get worse in all areas...the weather patterns are completely out of whack. We are in a drought here and many wells are dry...the river through our town is almost dry. Yesterday was a record breaking temperature for this time of year here in Southern Ontario, Canada~80 F.
I'm distraught over what is happening everywhere and I'm thankful so far there is minimal loss of life. What I am wondering about is what do you think is becoming of all of the wildlife in the fires in California? It's all truly heartbreaking....

Tom
I've lived in California all my life, and cannot ever remember this hot blustery weather at 100 degrees with 60 mile per hour winds.....it is horrible to imagine. We have friends coming from San Diego and Irvine to stay with us in Corona.
Tom, thanks for the pictures and for keeping us updated. Very scary indeed. Glad to hear that you are okay.
Thanks for the photo's Tom, be safe.
Jo - I couldn't even hazard a guess as to the loss of wildlife, though it has crossed my mind. It's terribly heartbreaking.
Bill - Those who don't live here can't begin to imagine the scope of it.
Brian - Thanks. It's all anyone is talking about here.
Missy - You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words.
Sending our prayers for all So. Californians, be safe! Thank you for the update. I just finished watching the news and I am just amazed of the damage. The numbers keep rising and two deaths so far contributed. This is scary stuff. God Bless from Arizona!!
Tom, this is absolutely awful. We've been watching the news and I can't get over the scope of this disaster. Stay safe, we're praying for you.
Just horrific, Tom. I don't like what I am hearing from the fire chief, either. Keep us posted as many of us are justifiably jaded by the media's coverage of anything these days. Hard to separate truth from hyperbole. For once, though, I fear the hyperbole is accurate. Bet wishes to all of our California Active Rainers.
TOM: Glad to see that you are safe, and I hope that the other California Rainers are as well.
Debbie - Still safe, thanks for keeping us in your thougts. Just waiting for a bit more daylight so I can see what it's like outside.
Paul - This is something you couldnt exagerate if you tried to. Scary, tragic stuff.
Adam -Thanks for your concern.
Tom - what an absolutely beautiful neighborhood you live in! Amazing how different it looks with a blue sky as opposed to those eerie morning photos -
Tom I was watching the news last night and the fire has gotten so out of control that it can be seen from outer space (satellite pics.). It's truly a horrible event.
Tom,
I was in Italy this summer and there was a huge fire on the mountainside and I wasn't able to make it to Sorrento. At the time I was pretty miffed but fire is incredibly dangerous and shouldn't be taken lightly. After seeing all of the devastation on TV our thoughts are with you.
Barbara-Jo & Bill -We love our neighborhood and feel blessed we have been spared. It looks especially eerie now!
Barbara - Jump in anytime. I don't know the specifics of that particular fire. I have to assume it was isolated.
Vincent - It is horrible. We're miles away and can't believe what we're seeing. I can't imagine what those who are experiencing firsthand are going through.
Tracy - Thank you. The conditions couldn't be any more idea for fire. Hot, dry and very windy.
