In a move to correct underfunding of Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley schools in prior years, the state's budget will include an additional $14.3 million for these school districts as part of what has been termed "equalization funding".
The equalization funding is supposed to reverse incorrect calculations in California school funding formulas for the last several years. Both K-12 school districts and community colleges will receive portions of these funds.
Apparently the Hart School District in Santa Clarita intends to use the $2 million or so in equalization funds it receives to help pay for rising medical costs for its employees.
