Did the downward housing market destroy humanity?
I've been wondering lately what happened to morality in the housing market.
The latest event that caused me to question people happened this week.
A senior citizen couple, (72 & 79) lost thier primary residence and all thier savings due to the downturn in the economy. Forced to find a rental that would take thier children (3 dogs) was a bit of a problem.
First, because they had 3 dogs, they decided unbeknownst to thier family, that they should put the oldest of the dogs down. It was a sad day, as this was the dog that had shared thier bed, laps and home for 12 years. The dog was healthy, but finding a rental for 3 dogs was something they were afraid they would not be able to do.
In rides the hero, a homeowner who would gave them a 2 year lease and allowed them to keep thier 2 remaining dogs. Rent was established, the landlord agreed to pay the alarm company, the gardner and allow the tenants to fix the backyard.
Imagine the call I got when the tenants came home last week to find a foreclosure notice on the door. YEP, 6 months to the day they moved in they received the Notice of Default with a foreclosure date in 3 months. How soon after they signed the rental agreement did the landlord STOP paying the rent? Days, Weeks, I doubt months.
So now what..... What happened to humanity? Why didn't this landlord at least notify the tenants that they were not making the payment? The landlord was current at the time of the signing of the lease. Payments were even to the mortgage amount.....
Why, what, where, when and how did we get to this?
Now WHAT?
