I Walk The Line

I Walk The Line by Bill Roberts

This seems to be the summation of my life. Some might say I am rigid. It's true. I have very definite ideas of RIGHT and WRONG. I don't smoke, I drink less than even what would be "sociable," I don't use bad language, nor do I have any "body art."

I walk the line.

The very first "record" I ever bought was Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" on the Sun record label. It still is my favorite. It describes me. I feel it. I live it. It is my philosophy.

I walk the line.

I grew up (born and raised actually) in California. Some call it the land of fruits and nuts. It must be a reference to the vast agricultural resources of California. What else could it be? Aberrant behavior seems to be everywhere. I wear button-down collars. Some might say I have a button-down mind. That's OK by me.

I went to college in the Bay Area (San Jose State) during the Sixties. Hippies everywhere. I didn't succumb to their ways.

I walk the line.

I am left handed, consequently dyslexic. I am not loquacious. Words come with great difficultly for me, but I hope that the words I picked have given you a good glimpse into my soul.

I walk the line.

This is a "contest" entry to the group "inspired by a song" but if you could use some help with your real estate or retirement planning give me a call. Bill Roberts (619) 244-4610.

Hi Bill, I enjoyed reading your post, the song is great and guess what - were it not for those lines the buyers and sellers wouldn't have anything to sign on, would they (smile)

I happen to be a big fan of I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash as well.

Jackie

Jackie, thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the video, it's the "original" Johnny Cash before he was the "man in black."

Bill Roberts

Great post Bill!  Ironic though... Johnny Cash didn't walk the line when it came to a number of vices.  It's amazing he lived as long as he did when you consider all the trouble he got himself into.  :)  Maybe he should have considered the advice in this song... just as you did!  Either way... any fan of Cash is a fan of mine!  :)

Rich, I am a fan of yours even if your statement didn't make sense to me.

And I was one of the original fans of Johnny Cash. Long before it was fashionable to be one.

Thanks for commenting.

Bill, Yes - I was familiar with the video, but I decided to watch it again and I'm glad I did because the video reminded me of my dad sitting on the stool in the living room playing his guitar and singing a couple of these songs to me.  A Johnny Cash he never was, but I sure loved it.  Thanks again for posting the YouTube video.

Bill

I wonder how life and society would be if more people would decide to walk the line, rather than cross it, or somehow try to redefine it.

I've always admired the stories that our parents share with us....since you're a tiny bit older than I, but we share many of the same ideas, thank you for posting this! We need to hear this message.

Jackie, thanks for coming back. Your dad must have been fun. Glad you liked the video.

Bill Roberts

OK Bill, I am a tiny bit older than you don't think you can get away with calling me Dad or
Pops.

As for lines, they are there for a reason. Just think how many lives are "saved" by the white (or yellow) line down the middle of the road.

Thanks for chiming in.

Bill - Thanks for your entry in the contest.  Please add the tag "inspired by song november contest" so that we can properly locate it when it's time to begin the judging.  I appreciate it, and I will comment more after the contest ends.

Jason, It's done. I copied and pasted "inspired by song november contest" from your comment directly to my tags. That should do it. Thanks for the inspiration and the opportunity.

Bill Roberts

BTW See the lengths I'll go to to get you to comment on my blog?

Bill,

A very pleasant song! This is my first time hearing it and it is quite relaxing.

Ahhhhh....Yes, I also like to.....walk the line.......myself.....in the evening........on a summer night......at the beach.....as the sun sets....birds are chirping.......romance filled the air.....and love everywhere.....as I walk the line.......... Thanks for sharing!

Great song, great Blog!

Bill thank you for walking that line right to our little contest.  I'll be back to comment after we conclude with the judging.

I don't have body art either...is that a good thing? I have yet to submit...will do so in a couple of days....

Dave, thank you for commenting.

Chad, thank you, too.

Paul, thank you. I'll be here.

Sally, You know it is! I'm looking forward to your "song."

Bill, I had a chance to visit Sun Studio earlier this year and it gave me goose bumps when they played some of the original recordings from the early days of Johnny Cash and other.  Excellent choice in music!

Lisa, I would like to visit Sun also. Sam Philips was a true genius.

Thanks for visiting and commenting.

BILL:  Thanks for entering the contest.  I'm looking forward to checking out your entry.  I'll be commenting on it once the judging is completed.

Adam, thank you. I look forward to that.

Bill- I don't think of you as rigid. Perhaps principled and a person of high moral values. You are open enough to learn and that is a good thing and not rigid. Katerina

Bill R.....

Last I checked, Pops was a term of endearment to my elders whom I thoroughly respect...I like that I didn't have to even say it, you just finished my thoughts for me!
