3 Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Woman holding money up to her nose and smelling itSmells Like Money To You But Smells Like Sewage To Your Prospect

So you’re trying to build your client, prospect or lead list, and you come up with a catchy phrase that smells like money to you. The problem is that it may smell like something else to the people that are reading it! Eeeewwwww!

Make Readers Want To Do Business With You Instead Of Your Competition

Here’s the good news- with a few minor changes and tweaks in the verbiage you’re using in your marketing pieces, you will be able to grab the readers attention and make them want to do business with you over your competition.

3 Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Here’s some examples of the mistakes that marketers make, when it comes to promoting their services, products or business opportunity:

1) Work With Wendy (or some other similar phrase including the word “work”)

Seems fun, right? Catchy, kinda rolls off the lips? Eeeeh- wrong answers!

This title implies that the client, prospect, buyer, etc… will be working. This is not something that sounds like fun to anyone, and especially someone that’s paying you to do the work for them, supply them with something, or is looking for a business that they’ll enjoy.

2) Learn How To….

Yet again another thing that people don’t like (typically) or don’t want to do… LEARN! Most people don’t care to go back to school or learn anything new. They want everything to be push button, easy, and pain free.

3) We’ll Teach You How To…. or We’ll Teach You How You Can…

Obviously this is another one to avoid for the same reason given in #2 above. When you use the words learn or teach, you will automatically turn off a great deal of prospects, even if you really do have something of great value to share with them.

3 Small Changes That Will Bring You Success

So what should you say instead? Consider these alternatives and think about how they will make the prospect feel:

1) Wendy Works For You or Let Wendy Do The Work For You

This lets the prospect know that you will be doing the work and implies that you’ll be taking the load and burden off of them.

2) Find Out How We…

Gives the prospect the idea that all they need to do is find out the secret to how it’s done, and it will work for them. It also implies that they’ll be hearing some secret method or way of achieving something that isn’t common knowledge. In fact, using the word “secret” in your header can have a significant impact as well, and should be used, if it applies to your marketing piece.

3) We’ll Show You How We…

Again, just as with #2, this implies that you’re sharing some sort of exclusive information that has already been tested and proven. It helps the prospect understand that they won’t have to go through all of the trial and error period that you did; you’ve already figured out the secret sauce, and you’re going to give them the formula so that they can achieve their goals easily and immediately.
