Market Distress Indicators Moving in Different Directions in California... What???

DataQuick has released their spin on California February 2008 Home Sales. And the news ain't half bad.

  • Mortgage payments are back to where they were 4 years ago...
  • DataQuick's numbers include all sales (new and resale), houses and condos...
  • Buying activity for non-owner occupied housing is increasing (investors are back in the market)
  • February Sales slowest on record (records kept since 1988) (Could this be why buyers held their breath in February? I know it's why I told my Jumbo buyers to wait.)
  • Median prices drop

Glad to hear that things are starting to pick up, hopefully they will continue to do so.

Good info, thanks.  Will keep an eye on this trend.

JL & Ricki - I will be closely watching as well.

I think you are right about people holding off during February.  We just had two weeks of new listings pour onto the market.  Yay!

I know, our sales board is twice the volume as our new listings board.  Definitely picking up at a serious clip!

Elaine - Is the county you work in offering homeowners a chance at lowering their property taxes?  They are giving an easy window here until March 30th.
