Luxury Real Estate in San Diego

If you are interested in a luxury home in the San Diego area, you have lots to choose from. Not just because the prices here are high (everyone who has paid attention to the real estate market over the last few years knows about California prices) but because there truly are some wonderful super-luxury homes available to acquire.

San Diego is not typically on the top of the list when you think about a luxury home. Malibu, Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Palm Beach, The Hamptons, River Forest, and Manhattan are some of the places you generally think about first. But rest assured, if you are planning to spend in excess of $5 million for a home, we can probably offer it to you. Our high end communities include Rancho Santa Fe (ranked the second most expensive zip code in 2006 by Forbes), Del Mar, La Jolla, and Coronado, among others, although you can find high end properties in many of the communities along the coast, as well as more inland and downtown in some high-rise buildings with "penthouses in the sky."

If you are spending $5 - $10 million:

You can choose from 113 detached homes in this price range. For example, you might want a 2200 SF brand new home in the Del Mar beach colony just 4 houses from this famous oceanfront in the $5 1/2 million range. Or if you want direct ocean front high on a bluff with amazing views forever, spend about $8 million to acquire a 6 bedroom, 7 bath, 7,000 SF home in Encinitas. You can live high in the hills above La Jolla with miles of coastal and ocean views in a spectacular contemporary multilevel home with walls of glass, 4 bedrooms, and over 6200 SF of living and entertaining space. And lastly, if your heart beckons you to Rancho Santa Fe, there is lots is this price range (about 40 homes right now). Perhaps an 11,000 SF home with 6 bedrooms and 11 baths and all the luxury you could want is your ticket - and for under $10 million.

If you are spending $10 - $15 million:

You still have a good number of choices if this is your price range, 18 properties as a matter of fact. At the low end, a new construction Tuscan estate in RSF with about 10,000 SF, 5 bedrooms and 7 baths, a pool, dramatic views of the mountains and hills, and many other luxury appointments can be yours for a little under $10 million. A friend of mine can offer you an expansive (over 11,000 SF, 6 bedrooms, 8 baths) gated home on 7 acres in a private enclave of 6 estates for a tad under $12 million. Or if you prefer the coast, the same price will get you an oceanfront estate on La Jolla's coveted "street of dreams" that includes almost 6,000 SF of living space, along with gorgeous pool, terrific views (of course), and 7 bedrooms and 5 baths. Not too shabby for coastal living.

If you are spending $15 - $20 million:

Well, in this price range you have far fewer choices, at least on the public market. But 8 is not a bad selection since it includes oceanfront in La Jolla (3300 SF) at $16,000,000, a truly spectacular offering. Or live on the hills overlooking the ocean in a stunning contemporary masterpiece of 11,000+ in La Jolla, at the top of the range, just over $19,000,000. A fabulous 4 bedroom 9 bath estate that offers panoramic views and lush landscaping, along with a guest house (many homes in these luxury categories offer guest homes) in the Del Rayo estates area of RSF tops the list in this price range at just a bit under $20,000,000!

If you are spending over $20 million:

Yep, you still get some choices here, 6 right at the moment. A mere $21 million and change gets you an incredible bluff-top 8,000+ SF estate with dramatic ocean views in Del Mar. Spend almost $27 million and you can be the new owner of a 7,300 SF, 5 bedroom 6 bath luxury property in the prestigious Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. You can up the budget to $36 million, or $40 million, or go to the current top at $50 million where you can own a dramatic, contemporary multi-building architectural masterpiece with a nice bit of ocean-frontage in the exclusive Del Mar Beach Colony (not quit Malibu, but in many ways better).

Attached homes and condos:

The top of the list, at a bit over $12,000,000, is an incredible penthouse of around 8,000 SF and 3 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Alas, it is yet to be built, but you can acquire it now if you want to plan ahead. But if you want it NOW, try this penthouse of 4,800 SF, incredible views in all directions of San Diego, the bay, and beyond, for only $5.7 million. And if you wish to live in a luxury condo in the $3 - $5 million range, San Diego can give you 15 homes to choose from, averaging 2500 SF and 3 bedrooms, with an average price tag of $3.6 million.

So, luxury home buyers, you have much to consider if living in paradise is what you are seeking. And compared to some areas, we are a terrific value. Just up the road in Laguna beach you can spend $75 million of the most incredible ocean front estate you can imagine. Or buy Donald Trump's home in Florida (somewhere around $130 million. The most expensive home at the moment however, is in Montana. Great place to live if you can spend about $150 million.

If you have an interest in any of these properties, or wish to learn more about, or see photos of, the luxury choices available to you, please contact me. And you may read more about how to search for and acquire a luxury home in my Relocation A to Z blog.

Jeff this sound like a great community to live in if you have that kind of money.  So if you can send me one of those $20,000,000 loans...........LOL

Hey George - Thanks for stopping by. Yep, there are some pretty nice properties here. I would love to do a deal with you. Let's see if we can drum up a buyer with those requirements (although many of the folks who buy these homes are paying cash, and it's a second home)!

Jeff
