The Joy of Service
This weekend's Big Sunday is a perfect example of what many are finding out: the greatest reward is helping others.

It sounds corny, or even old-fashioned. And trust me, many of my closest friends and family don't view me as a glass-is-half-full kind of guy. I'm a Skeptic at best. But this unbelievable idea was hatched by David Levinson and no wonder it's growing in momentum.
People nationwide are taking part, whether it's going to the elderly lady's house down the street to fix her roof, cleaning up the local park, assembling playground equipment at a local children's center. It doesn't matter what you do....
.....myself, I'm collecting my kid's old toys and clothes and old luggage and kitchen stuff and bedding and whatever else I find around the house that's not being of good use and donating it. So it will be of good use.
Someone, somewhere needs some help. You've got to serve somebody.

Thanks for the reminder, Ron. On Sunday, a friend of mine is going to help some folks in Suffolk, VA, who sustained tornado damage earlier in the week. I'm hoping to donate some unneeded items as well. Have a great weekend.
Good post. We need more of these on AR instead of complaints.
I never even knew this event existed! My family has always been big into helping others so we usually participate in "Days of Kindness" sponsored by Key Bank here. We always do walk-a-thons and the like and caring days sponsored by our church. The great thing about doing things like this is it is contagious. Once you get that "feel good" feeling, you want to do it again and again - it is a contagious high! (Not that I know anything at all about getting high because I've never inhaled!) So it starts to spill over into other areas of your life and you start looking for opportunities to help others!

Helping others lightens my heart. Thanks for sharing this - serves as a reminder. Do unto others as you would them do unto you. Stay blessed.
Providing service to others is the only game in town. Everyone should look back on their own lives and will most likely realize how much help they got from others.
An important reminder for us to do these things often and within our communities. The little things count.
