Huntington Beach, CA is located in Orange County California.
"Dog Beach" for 4-legged friends and their owners to enjoy the beautiful California coastline together. It's about a one-mile stretch of dog heaven for those who like to play at the beach.
I've been biking along the beach trail for years, while there I always stop to enjoy the scenery at the cliffs overlooking dog beach.
The photo on the right is one I shot not long ago on a sunny day. You can see the beach is filled with pets and their owners.
Dog Beach is west of the famous Huntington Beach pier, and begins at Seapoint on the east and goes to Goldenwest Click here for a map of the location.
There is an enthusiastic group of volunteers who have formed this non-profit organization in support of dog beach. Dog beach t-shirts, ball caps and assorted clothing is available in the volunteer staffed booth on week-ends.
So if you live in So Cal or just visiting, head on down to Huntington Beach. It's a great place to spend the day. The beach walk is great for walkers, joggers and biking with miles and miles of paved trails. You can normally find plenty of parking along with clean restrooms and snack bars.
If you're interested in the nearby Bola Chica Wetlands check this out. Free tours are available, view Friday Fun for Free for more info on the wetlands tours.

Lynda, how fun! I didn't know there was a "dog beach" in Huntington Beach. I'll have to check it out. By the way, I love your new picture! :-)
Lynda,
What a wonderful area to live in! I would love to be able to bike along there regularly and hike in the wetlands....it sounds and looks just like paradise to me.
Lovely photos of the beach and I'm with Irina, I love your new pic.
Jo
Lynda--What a fun, pet-friendly area to live in! Great of you to share the photos...Looks like a great place to live!
Hi Irina ~ Yep, it's a big deal in Huntington Beach.
Jo-Anne ~ Pet lovers love it here.
Teri ~ Thanks for the visit.
Lynda - nice write-up on this beach area. I love hearing about the pet-friendly beaches, of which there seems to be short supply (guess they are only for dogs, not cats! LOL).
Jeff
Hi Lynda - Like you, this is one of my favorite places to stop and visit while bike riding in Huntington Beach. It always makes me smile to see the happy faces on the people and their adoring four-legged friends warms my heart.
Lynda, Huntington Beach is such a beautiful area. I'm sure these past HOT days the beach was full with people and their 4 legged friends.
Hey Jeff ~ Mr. Carlsbad, thanks for the visit.
Marlene ~ You're right, it's a great place to ride!
Mana ~ Good hearing from you.
Lynda - What a lovely area, I was just picturing the bike path on the cliff overlooking the beach. I can't help myself, is there any possibilty that I might step into anything besides sand on Dog Beach? Lol
Hi Lynda,
Your beach is beautiful and I love the fact that it is pet friendly as long as owners clean up after their pets.
Jennifer & Cynthia ~ Yes you're both right. Good news is that the pet owners are required to pick up after their dogs.
Lynda, you always enlighten me. I had no idea this "dog beach" even existed. You have to talk with the local expert I guess.
We're visiting this summer and can't wait!!! I love these pictures.
Hi Lynda, Dog Beach sounds like a great place pooches and their owners to have a lot of fun in the sun!
My mom lives at the NC Coast and during the summer months there are NO DOGS ALLOWED on the beach.
BTW, thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog post.
Hi Gary ~ Yep, it's a popular place in So Cal.
Cheryl ~ Love your graphic, too cute. As far as I know, all the other beaches here are the same way, no dogs allowed, that is except for this one.
Chris ~ Glad to hear you will get a chance to enjoy it.
AHHHHHH!!! Looks like fun! My pooches would love this beach. I can see them now, the puppy would be rolling in the sand attempting to get as dirty as she possibly could and the old guy would be looking for the nearest umbrella.
