Stray cat + 5 kittens!

First I thought there were only 3... then the next day all 5 came out to eat. Yikes! That's a lot of spay/neuter fees if I don't find them homes right away! If you're in my area & need a sweet little kitten, contact me!

Mommy is little, I'm trying to figure out how old these babies probably are. I don't want to have her spayed while they are still nursing, and I do see them nursing. They are eating the dry food, however, do you think it's okay to have her surgery?

There are 3 who look Siamese, one little black one, and one tortoise shell like Mom. I could almost cry I want to pick them up so bad, but Mom is still hissing at us. She did eat some wet food out of Rhiannon's hand, then I guess freaked herself out by being so close and swatted her! I'm going to try & feed her out of my hand this evening. She seems like she'll be easy to tame, thank goodness. She's a pretty girl.

I have a weakness for Siamese cats so I may be in very big trouble. Luckily, so do my mother and my sister. We'll see if I can spread the "trouble"! : )

OH HOW CUTE! My mom had a siamese cat years ago that she rescued. It was precious...but very active. These kitties remind me of her and make me giggle remembering her antics. GBU!

I'm glad to bring back that memory!  I love them because they seem to "talk" more than other breeds.  Always something to say!

Chris:  What sweethearts!  But 5?!!!  That's how I ended up with my three kittens last winter.  I would team up with a local animal rescue place to do the spays and neuters.  They are cheaper that way.  And they usually pay, if you, in turn, make a donation to them in the same amount.  That's how I did mine.

Chris Ann - I'm calling today.  5, yes, 5!  That's a lot.  Plus their little mama.

You have such a big heart. These kittens and moma could not have found a better friend than you. I hope you are able to find them a loving home.

Chris - they are adorable!  And they are so lucky to have found you!  You obviously have a big heart and a soft spot for God's creatures.

About 10 years ago I had a pregnant cat find me - she was very wild and nervous.  I spent 8 days just putting a bowl of food out and sitting in a chair next to it till she came and ate.  Once she figured I wasn't the enemy I brought her inside to have her babies.  I'm such a softie.  LOL

Chris ......AWEEEE  How can anyone resist those baby blue eyes on the siameses! and Im not even a cat person

( 10/02/08 06:01PM ) — C Tann-Starr

Oh my word, they are such cutie pies! I love pets! I can't wait to get a house so I can have some again. The little minions will be thrilled! :-)

Chris....I want one...beautiful blue eyes. My husband would kill me and my golden might be miffed. Great photos....those blue eyes!

Carol - How do they find the right house?  I'm a softie too and in trouble with these little siamese babies.

Fernando - I am a cat person, so imagine how hard this will be for me!

C - I bet the boys would love pets.  Maybe a big dog for those two, they have a lot of energy!  A retriever or lab who never stops playing, so the dog will wear the minions out for bedtime!

Jeanean - I could drive one up!  : )  We're not that far apart.  They are super cute.  Can't wait to get my hands on them, when "mom" lets me.

Chris, these babies are beautiful!  You have to keep one because they have your eyes!!  Blue!  I think your eyes are blue, they look it anyway!  I love kittens and back when it was okay to be socially irresponsible, my cat that I had as a child had a lot of them!  They used to get born in my room.  When the cat would sneak out, I would count the exact gestation period, set the box up in my room and help her birth them.  It was a wonderful experience and I cried with each kitten we gave away!

HI CHRIS!

I'm not a bif fan of cats, but those little babies could persuade me to change my mind!!  Those blue eyes are gorgeous!

Hi Susan - Mine are more greenish, but Rhiannon's are bright blue like these babies.  That's amazing that you got to see the kittens being born, we just have too many strays to do that anymore!  Poor kitties.  I talked to the neighbor about it today and she said, "I didn't know that still happened these days" (that someone doesn't spay/neuter).  But here we have adorable, blue-eyed proof that it still happens!  I bet I'll cry with each one we give away!

Hi Yvette - I'm destined to be the "crazy cat lady" of the neighborhood, so this is rough for me!  I love all animals, but cats are my favorite.

You are pretty amazing and you will find these wonderful kittens a home! If you can give them up that is.

Terrie - that will be the hard part.  : (

Wow...I wish I was closer to you.  The Siamese looking kitties are so adorable!  Of course Hubby has cut me off...he says I have too many already, but they are so cute!

They are adorable.  My mom wants two... my dad said no.  We'll see what happens when she returns from her trip!

Ohhh Chrisssss ... you are SOOOOO in troooouuuble! You're gonna be adopting ...(singing here)

How could you not? They are the cutest babies ever. God bless you & Rhiannon for helping them. Keep us posted!

Sharon - I am afraid that yes I am going to be adopting.  The more the merrier, I guess!

Wish I lived closer, I too am a sucker for siamese!

I don't know if it's the blue eyes or the attitudes, or all the "talking" they do!

Just a little update.  Talked to the county spay/neuter clinic today and the soonest they can take care of mama kitty is 11/12!  AND if she is feral and scratches them or me, she has to be quarantined and that costs another $100.  So their advice was that I tame her real quick before her surgery date.  Nice, right!?!  You'd think they'd have ways of handling feral cats at the county animal shelter!  So I need to get them in the house and tame the lot of them in my spare time.  I need to know what I can use on the babies for fleas.  They're pretty small and I don't want to hurt them, but no one in my house has fleas and I really don't want to change that.  Thanks for your advice!

Chris ... wow...good luck! I don't know for sure, but I think I have heard that Dawn dishwashing liquid is good. And shouldn't hurt the babies. I actually use it on Gracie every other bath, because she seems to be greasy for some reason, and she looks beautiful when I use it! Keep us posted.

Chris, my vet told me to use Palmolive, the green one, when JJ was a baby.  He said to put a little in a cup of water and dilute it, wet the dog, lather him up, rinse, let him shake and then rinse again.  Cats don't shake and they have major claws and teeth, so be careful.  If you get scratched or bitten by mama cat, she may need to be put down.  I found this out the hard way when I rescued a cat at the local shopping center.  I was pregnant and the cat was very friendly.  As I was carrying her to my car, she cat scared by another vehicle and bit me.  I got her over to the SPCA and they were furious with me because they said that they would need to put her down and check her for rabies.  The only way to do that is to put them down.   I had no idea.  I burst into tears.  They said that do gooders like me need to learn to leave the animals alone and just call the SPCA.  I cried all day thinking about that cat.  I was trying to do that right thing.

Chris, Here in Southern California they issue spay/neuter vouchers but only at certain "City" run shelters.  The County has all of the rules because their worker's compensation laws are stricter.  But if you could get a voucher which allows you to take them to a veterinarian on a list, (they provide), you can call around and get a vet who is more experienced with the more wild ones.  Down here, they would give you vouchers for the babies too.

Good luck to you.  I would do the same thing.  Keep us all updated I am parking this one and keeping you in my good thoughts.

Sharon - I read that too, I just don't know how I'll get the babies to cooperate!  I guess I will treat all of my pets for fleas before bringing these in and just worry about it when I get them tamer.

Susan - That is so very sad!  Of course you were trying to do the right thing.  Unfortunately here, the SPCA wouldn't come get them anyway.  It's "kitten season" and I can't get any of the rescues to even answer my calls.  I'm not afraid of mama, I am certain she can be tamed.  I just have to take my time.

Jane - I will look into getting vouchers, as I mentioned to Susan I can't even get a phone call answered.  I'm a little frustrated but at least I know I can handle it on my own.  I sit with the mother while she eats her canned food and she's fine.  I haven't touched her yet, but I put my hand out above her head & she hisses but doesn't strike out.

They are beautiful Chris.  But even if I lived closer my hubby wouldn't let me take another.  But I did want to mention to you if you can't "share" the love... and find homes... maybe your local humane society will help pay for spray/neuter.  They just helped me with a stray pup we took in.

Tammy - They sure are beautiful.  I did stumble upon a Fix Our Feral program, I am hopefully they can help if I can get an appointment.  Today is the day I try catching the mother cat to bring her into the house.  We cleaned out a bedroom for them.

( 10/15/08 01:15PM ) — Tammy Lankford- lake sinclair

This is my collection of stay cats.  All girls.  The first one reminds me of your mommie cat and the middle one is a seal point snow show which is related to the Siamese.  Of course I also feed my neighbors outside cat because he comes over to my porch begging.

Good luck with getting the appointment.  A friend of mine has 12 cats all of which she's had spayed/neutered and buys two boxes of flea meds a month for them.

They are beautiful Tammy!  Wow, 12 is a lot.  Are they in the house?  I can't  imagine how many cat boxes... that's the only drawback for me, changing the litterbox.  But it's a small price to pay!

Chris - Keep us posted - maybe we should start an AR stray cat collection fund for your kitties!!!

Thank you Jane - I'll let you know if I can't get in on the feral cat program, they will do it for free but they only have one clinic per month.

( 10/16/08 08:45AM ) — Patrice Estess

Wow Chris, they sure are beautiful, I don't think you will have too much trouble finding them homes...if they leave your family at all!!!

Thank you Patrice!  We especially like that little Siamese hissing.  He's a scary one, huh?  : )
