WHOSE Right to Life?

Does anyone think that Palin's "Right to Life" stance is a contradiction to her hunting a moose, gutting it and eating the meat? The philosophy of an "embryo being a human being" seems at odds to hunting for sport, not survival. Am I suggesting "Right to Lifers" not eat? No that is not what I am saying. I just can't understand a person believing in both of these: seems rather two-faced to have both of these viewpoints.

Who should determine the species that has the "Right to Life". Humans, because we CAN?

Well, I guess it depends on your beliefs. I believe in God and that God created animals. God gave us dominion over these animals. We can determine their fate. Just as we decide to save a particular species of animals to prevent extinction; we can decide which animals are hunted. Also, there is not enough resources to protect all species of animal, we have to decide which ones get the resources and which we let go by way of extinction. How do we come to those decisions? I do not know, but we can't save them all.

As far as disparity between animals and humans; there is no argument there. We are humans.

I don't believe in a God that created anybody, so I don't think anyone gave humans "dominion over animals."  There are not enough resources for all the humans on this planet, so who should decide which ones should live? The Darwinian approach is that the strongest/fittest animals will survive without anyone's help. Why don't we let Nature decide this? Who appointed humans as the big decision makers? Besides, this is not the main point.

My main question is:

If anyone thinks that there is a dichotomous thought process present when a "Right to Lifer" is very comfortable with killing a defenseless creature for sport (read "fun")?

Deborah

That is why I said it depends on your beliefs.

My problem with "no abortions, no matter what" is that it totally denies any rights to the pregnant woman. It says the baby is important, and her life and body don't matter.

When choice over what an individual deems necessary for their health, either mental or physical, is legislated by the government, it opens up a "Pandora's Box". Do we want to live in a country that tells us it is illegal to have a medical procedure of ANY type? Because abortion is just the "tip of the iceberg".This is fundamentally not democratic.

My stance was that it is hypocritical to believe in "human life" from conception, and than kill animals for fun.

I say if you want to depend on the Darwin approach of the fittest rise to the top of the food chain level the playing field and arm wrestle a bear. Take on that moose face to face with a knife and a fork. And, don't forget your lipstick.

Deborah,

I wrote it someplace today. I think this woman is just too much. I am watching her like I watch VH1 realty shows.(  I did pray that McCain does not Win so she doesn't end up the the white house ) Can you imagine that ??????? I would not take 2 cents from what she has to say.  Most of the stuff makes no sense.

It sounds like you and I think along the very same channels. I was thrilled when McCain chose her as his running mate, because at that moment I knew he had just "shot himself in the foot" and Obama would be our next President.

Sarah Palin appears to be unarticulate and completely unprepared for politics in the world arena. I shuddered at her being in the White House OR even President if anything had happened to McCain. What got me was the "mob" mentality that took over when she ran...Republicans singing her praises. Have they been listening to the same speeches I have been? Do they know this woman's background? Have they heard the interviews? I love your analogy of "Reality Show". I thought it was another SNL skit.  I mean, Tina Fey did a better job of being Sarah Palin than Sarah Palin did!!  LOL

Deborah, thought provoking post.  I have to say killing animals for sport not my cup of tea either.  Sarah Palin is funny to watch. I had this discussion with an associate. I asked, do you honestly think that she could represent the US well on an international level? People would take her for a joke. Tina Fey did an awesome job of being her.
