I know I am dating myself but....

San Diego has loads of "used" book stores, most of which are vast treasures of everything you could think of. In this current economy and political turmoil, life in America has really gotten a "hit". It is quite interesting to read books like "1984" and "Animal Farm" by Orwell, "Lord of the Flies" by Golding and"Player Piano" by Vonnegut. Quite prophetic and adaptable to our life in the 21st Century.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Deborah - try Anthem, by Ayn Rand. A very short but troubling read. It predates Atlas Shrugged by about a decade.

Deborah - you might also post this in the Realtors & Friends That Read group.

Mike, I love Ayn Rand.  I will try that also. Thanks for the Realtors Group idea, I just joined!

Hi Deborah - I love to read, and lately it's mostly been business stuff.....your post has inspired me to mix in a little literature.  I enjoy biographies and history.

I too find myself reading mostly business stuff. I am going on a long trip, and decided this is a great time to re-read some books that have timeless messages in them. I wonder what reading "1984" in 2008 will be like?
