I was recently at the Fall Home Show here in Redding. We had a booth and were out talking to people here in Shasta County about HUD homes and the benefits that are offered in FHA financing. I took a little break to walk around and talk with some of the other booth exhibitors and I met a client of mine. She was there for her business and we were delighted to see each other. It's been going on over two years that we did a short sale on her home.
She was sharing with me that they are just about ready to buy again and how excited they were. We talked about how much things have changed and that when they do buy, it will be with the intention to pay off the home and raise their family and eventually retire in the home.
Our conversation brought several general observations forward for me. The change that has occurred from the real estate adjustment has also changed how we live our lives. We use to think of always trading up and bigger and better. With a more conservative approach we have downsized and learned to live more modest lives with savings and a simpler awareness of need versus want. My life is a better life living small. I am happier and have more time for those things in life that have a deeper meaning for me. Spending time with my family and staying in touch with dear friends. Giving back to my community has such importance in my life.
It would seem to me that along with "Bigger and Better" also came such a hectic life. Many times those good intentions would slip away to some far away place called "I'll do it tomorrow" place. They died there, a lonely death. My smaller lifestyle has more time for the important things. Taking my doggie for a walk and cooking my sweet husband his favorite breakfast. Washing his clothes for him (he always mixes colors and whites). I like small and thoughtful and I'm not glad that we had a real estate market crash but I like my life better than when I had a huge house and too much to do and take care of.
This new "Need Versus Want Lifestyle" of mine is fitting me just right and I am grateful for seeing the world differently. I am also grateful for my clients that have a new beginning and who have taken a bad thing in life and turned into a good thing in life. It is a secret that has a beautiful and winning aspect to it. It's a good thing.
