I spent most of Sunday putting away dishes and pans -- and god knows what we have collected over the years -- into some sort of semblance in our new cabinets. We have more cabinets than we've had before, but less space. Know why? Because the old cabinets were like big boxes, and you could cram stuff into every corner. Land Park homes have a lot of original cabinets that are spacious. The new cabinets come with sensible pull-out drawers, the things they can charge extra for. And they take up valuable space.
Fortunately, I found a spot for everything, even if some are out of my reach. You know what goes into those cabinets, right? The things my husband uses.
But I fear the bad news is we are down to one "junk" drawer. Sigh.

Every day as I trip over the things in my 1300 s.f. home, I wonder how my husband and I survived in our 800 s.f. trailer. Of course we didn't have kids then, but still...how did we survive in that dinky thing?
I don't want a bigger house, because that just means I'll collect bigger piles of junk! LOL
Every time I move I really try to donate, donate, donate before the truck comes, but the kitchen is the toughest spot! It's all the unique specialty small appliances that trip me up... ice cream freezers, pasta makers, etc.
I find it amazing the number of "stuff" we collect over the years. Every week I give my wonderful cleaning lady a few items I no longer need...and I have been doing this for years! It makes me wonder how much stuff I really ever needed! Congrats on the new kitchen...very exciting!
I wish I was down to only one junk drawer. I now have a spare room full of office stuff since we've opened up our new space, that I keep meaning to "get to" before I haul it back to the new office. Arghhhh...
LOL! only one junk drawer would drive my wife crazy.... shhhh I did not say that.

Hi Karen: My first real home that I bought all by myself was only 800 square feet, so your trailer must have been huge!
Hi Vickie: Small appliances are the bane of my existence. Chicken broasters, waffle makers, ice cream makers, pasta machines, not to mention the gigantic WOK.
Hi Paula: My husband routinely makes visits to the Salvation Army to drop off donations. When we moved to Land Park six years ago, I had to rent a 30-ton dumpster to get rid of stuff we carted across country. Our basic rule is nothing new comes in unless something old goes out.
Hi Sandra: It's funny how junk drawers can multiply and turn drawers not presently used for junk into another junk drawer!
Hi Charles: I think coat hangers transform themselves in the middle of the night into junk drawers. I always have fewer coat hangers, and they seem to evaporate into thin air.

Yep, our trailer was 14x70, 3bedrooms, 1 bath. Decent size kitchen but no counter space. Good size living room - we managed to cram two full size sofas, a rocking chair, a piano, a TVand stereo, and a few shelves of hubby's music equipment in there! Granted, the "entertainment center" was underneath what should have been a snack bar but hey. LOL
The bedrooms were tight. We also had a fantastic deck, almost the entire length of the trailer. We actually loved our trailer and the only reason we moved when we did was because the township wouldn't let us put a small addition on it when I got pregnant and we needed a little more space.
Elizabeth, I don't know how you do it. I could not survive with just one junk draw. I'd be traumatized... seriously!
Hi Karen: Well, yowza. That's a pretty big trailer. I once lived in a trailer in the mountains in Nederland, Colorado. During the winter. I don't think it was any longer than maybe 30 feet. I imagined I was on a boat. Especially at night when the winds came whipping through and rocked it.
Hi C: A junk drawer used to be a place you put grocery coupons, a spare set of keys, maybe a pair of pliers but ours have turned into "if you can't find it anywhere else, it's in the junk drawers."
Ugh... one junk drawer? hmmm. We have... well, a couple. haha. Ours are definitely the "if you can't find it anywhere else, it's in the junk drawers."
