Does Mikey Like the Kitchen?

kitchen remodelKITCHEN REMODEL

I can't believe my husband walked almost two miles toting his luggage and carrying a computer from light rail to our home in Land Park. If it was me in that situation, I would have called a cab. So, he was pretty tired from his trip, dropped his luggage in the living room and headed toward the kitchen.

But wait, I cried, didn't he want to first admire the marvelous pass-through into the living room. He hadn't even noticed it, if you can believe that. "There seems to be a hole," he said.

He walked into the kitchen, eyes widening and looked around. "Looks nice," he said, "Do you like it?"

Nice? That's all he had to say? After 15 days of slaving over this? Well, he rationed, it was pretty but he hadn't used it yet. Without actually using the kitchen, he had no opinion. What can I say? He's a rational, logical kinda guy.

Lucky woman whose husband wants to USE the kitchen before giving an opinion.  It does look very nice.  Great before and after photos.

My husband loves the kitchen except for breakfast unless he is making an omelet.

That's too funny! I must say though, that I see where your husband is coming from. To most men, usability is much more important than esthetics (DaVinci and Versace aside).

You scared me.  I was scrolling down your blog and saw that first picture and said, "She has already ruined her new kitchen with all that stuff she's put back in!"  Then I saw the transformed second one and I could breath again.   You are lucky to have a husband who just lets you do what you want.  It is misery to have to fight one who refuses to agree on something.  My husband is like yours....most of the time.

Elizabeth. Well done. Really an outstanding job. I loved every minute of it. What a great series! You must blog and tell us about your new book deal. Kudos and congrats! :-)

The kitchen looks great!  To turn in out in 15 days is amazing.  I am so impressed with your handyman skills.  I like the design because it is modern but still matches the charm of your house.  Good job! Erin

Whew!  I was expecting worse than that... I think once he dives in to make you dinner :) he'll love the remodel.

If you had bought a new flat screen tv, that  would get a man interested.  On oven, give me a break.  It is just functional, not pretty.

I do not know about Mikey but I like it!!!

Your friend in Charlottesville!

Elizabeth.....Men aren't they amazing....and I would believe they see us in the same way. Someone once remarked that men and women are different species and that anything every happens is a miracle!

Yeah, my husband is pretty smart, which is why I married him. I asked him today if I could have the leftover pasta for lunch, and he said no. He ate it for breakfast because he couldn't find the toaster. The toaster was in the dining room, of course, on the floor, because our backsplash is only half tiled by now. That's the one little job I took out of the equation.

I think he was tired from the trip is all I can figure and the two mile hike LOL. He'll notice the remodel after he is rested up. It looks marvelous Elizabeth. You done good.

Thanks for your thumbs-up vote, Gary. He doesn't like change. It will take him a while to adjust. He particularly doesn't like change when he had little input about the change.

Elizabeth - Well, when my husband is tired, he is a man of few words.  So, maybe when your husband rests a bit, he will have more to say...  :)
