Meatballs in Beer and a Movie!

Sacramento has been experiencing high winds the last couple days. The blustery weather turns the heart to comfort foods. I dusted off an old family recipe for Meat Balls in Beer, that I would like to share. It’s easy to put together, and is so enjoyable on evenings like this.

I would also like to recommend a movie that was just released to DVD. “Crazy, Stupid, Love” is a lighthearted, hilarious movie that most of the family will enjoy. It stars Steve Carrell and Julianne Moore. The rating is PG-13.

Cook up some meatballs, and enjoy the movie. Here's the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 lbs ground chuck
  • 3 cups dried bread crumbs (or less)
  • 2 eggs + 3 drops Tabasco sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. dark brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. green pickle relish
  • ¼ cup catsup
  • 1 tsp. salt

DIRECTIONS: Mix together all ingredients. Form into meatballs 1 ½” to 2” in diameter. Brown in skillet. Place the meat balls in sauce in a casserole. Bake at 350, 30 minutes. Do not overcook in the sauce or they will become too soft.

SAUCE:

  • 1 8-oz. jar chili sauce
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup beer
  • ¼ tsp. salt
