Annual passes are very reasonable, especially when you consider that you not only get in FREE to the San Diego Zoo, but also the San Diego Wild Animal Park. When you go to the Zoo, I can highly recommend going to bed early the night before your scheduled trip so that you can get there at 9:00 in the morning, when the Zoo opens. The advantage of getting there early are manifold: One of the great things that the San Diego Zoo does is run various specials for its members throughout the year. One of those specials is a very personal tour. The tour guide drives you around in your own special little cart with about ten people. In some cases, you'll even get to feed the animals, as this little group was doing at the Galapagos tortoise exhibit: The tortoises know that when a crowd of people arrive, they are going to get fed. Apparently, carrots are to the Galapagos tortoise what chocolate is to the human race -- LOL. One of the women was wearing orangle sandles, and one of the alpha males immediately saw those two carrots and took after them. Fortunately, the Zookeeper was there to get things back under control. One of the tortoises refuses to eat carrots when the crowds are there. He likes to eat in private. However, that might be because he likes to have his neck rubbed instead: I believe his name is Chips, and he just stood there in that position from beginning to end. He wouldn't eat anything, but he let everyone rub his neck.
