I decided to take a weekend getaway and wanted to find a nice quiet place close to San Diego. I had originally thought Palomar Mountain would be nice but they only had one place that rented cabins and they would only rent for two nights and not one. That wouldn't work for me. I then thought what about Idyllwild. I had never been to Idyllwild but had been to Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead many times in the past. I went on-line and did some research on Idyllwild.
It was close to San Diego and a nice, easy drive up the 15 through
Temecula then up into the San Jacinto Mountains. I researched several cabin, lodge and bed and breakfast places and chose one that I was very happy with. They had small cabins by Strawberry Creek and the property was very nice. So I made reservations and also dinner reservations and away we went. The drive up was about 2.5 hours partially in rush hour but was just long enough to have some nice conversation and catch up. We arrived at the cabins and checked in and had just enough time to clean up and change for dinner.
We drove into the town of Idyllwild and had some dinner and listened to some live jazz. It was a great dinner and a nice evening. The next morning squirrels were all over our back deck looking for food. From the looks of the many discarded peanut shells they were well fed from previous weekenders. I went and got some sunflower seeds from my truck and they ate like kings for an hour. We enjoyed the day in town by eating breakfast at the Red Kettle and shopping and art browsing and then drove home to San Diego which took about 2 hours.
I would recommend a getaway to Idyllwild. It is close to San Diego and is a nice California Mountain Town.
