The 8th Annual Cool products Competition at Pacific Coast Builder's Conference took on a new format this year. The focus was on products with the greatest promise for a healthier home and better communities.

This years judges were a panel of expert industry professionals.

Category 1: Conserves Natural Resourses

Winner: EcoStar Product: Majestic Slate 10" Traditional Roof Tiles

Cool qualities: Made from 80% recycled materials

Made from minimal use of lime stone filters

Category 2: New Cool Invention

Built-in speed control

Category 3: Contributes to a healthier living environment

Winner: Icynene Inc. Product: Icynene LD-R-50 Insulation

Castor oil is 100% naturally filtered with no chemical additives. The castor oil production process has low energy dependence. Castor crops do not require pesticides. Castor beans are the first building material to receive the ICC-ES SAVE designation for sustainability.

Category 4: Saves Energy

Winner: Custom Built Metals Product: FusionSolar

Cool qualities: FusionSolar delivers a simpler and more affordable solar power system. The system comes fully assembled and blends in without penetration in the roof. Delivering up to 7 LEED points in the on-site renewable energy category.

The exhibits and products were fascinating and exhillarating.
