The Sunset's Secret Pot Ops Make for Fire Hazards
October 2nd, 2009

Pot growers in the Outer Sunset, it seems, are threatening to set whole blocks aflame with their shoddy growing ops. The illegal indoor pot farms are set up using battery packs that power everything, from lamps to air filters and water filtration systems, and they're often poorly wired. Result: a powder keg of wood-frame houses and boarded up pot farms. According to the SF Examiner, 36 homes have been discovered to have "sophisticated" growing operations in the Sunset since March. A firefighter paramedic was hurt badly in a Bayview fire caused by bad wiring- if a similar fire breaks out in the Sunset, says the police chief, "we can end up burning an entire city block."
