Seeing the Maltese Falcon was the Perfect Ending to a Perfect Day in San Francisco

Perfect weather today in San Francisco made it mandatory to enjoy a day off in the city. The skies were clear, the temperature exceeded 80 degrees and the sidewalks were full of people enjoying such a beautiful day in the city. For the uninitiated, the marine layer over San Francisco adversely affects the weather. The high temp on a summer day in San Francisco can be in the 50's.

After enjoying a long walk through the UN area, Russian Hill/Nob Hill and Fisherman's Wharf heading back toward the Embarcadero and the BART station to catch the train home, I was amazed to see that the Maltese Falcon was still berthed in San Francisco. The photo below gives one some idea of the size of this huge yacht if you know that the smaller sailboat was a 30-footer. The Maltese Falcon is as long as a football field, with three computerized masts that are 20 stories tall.

Huge Yacht in San Francisco, Maltese Falcon

This article in the New York Times states "The Maltese Falcon is, when measured at the water line, the longest privately owned sailboat in the world, according to David A. Kaplan"

Thank you Vickie, that is a great picture of one of the most famous sailboats in the world. I saw a documentary of how this ship was built. an awesome piece of art.

Hi Vickie,  Thanks for the great post!  I had heard about this incredible vessel, but hadn't really seen such a beautiful picture of it!  All I can say is WOW!

Wow!  That is an amazing boat.  You missed your calling as a photographer.
