BAJA CALIFORNIA 7.2 EARTHQUAKE FELT IN THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY- April 4 2010

It occurred today Sun 4/4/10 at approximately 3:40pm PST. This quake was unlike any others I had experienced. It was not a shake and bake kind of rumble quake but more of a softly swaying one. A good comparison to this would be the Z-force ride at Magic Mountain. It just slowly rocks and felt as though it went on for quite a while. This slow movements actually felt scarier because it seemed to go on for an eternity.
At first, I didn't realized it was an earthquake and thought I was getting dizzy from looking at the computer monitor too long. I stopped and closed my eyes to make sure that it was just not my imagination. It was a strange sensation. As I stood up and walked around, I noticed that the house was kind of swaying and it was not stopping. I heard the floor and the walls started 'talking' as I could hear some crackling noise from the walls and flooring. A very eerie feeling.
Once it dawned on me that it was an earthquake, I took my place under the door jamb in one of the rooms and waited. It finally settled which 'appeared' to have lasted almost a minute. I can't imagine anyone who was experiencing this while in one of those high risers. That would be a nerve wrecking experience.
After watching the news, it was originally reported as a 6.9 on the Richter Scale and then upgraded to a 7.2. This earthquake was felt in the San Gabriel Valley and hit as far North as Santa Barbara and as far east as some parts of Arizona. So far, no major damages have been reported but many nerves have been stirred on this Easter Sunday.
