Colorful and Visually Enticing, Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos

In the city of San Marcos, a favorite son of the area, Jim Eubank has a vision for a large vacant lot adjacent right off what was then a 2 lane road, San Marcos Blvd, now a major thoroughfare. A real restaurant row. That was in the 60's. By the late 1970's Jim vision would come to life. Now managed by his children, Restaurant Row still has some of the original restaurants dating back to when it was first opened, like the Fish House Vera Cruz, Bruno's and Katsu's and they are still thriving today.

Dining at Restaurant Row covers the gambit from American favorites to the new trendy 'fusion' cuisine.

International in its scope, California Restaurant Row is sure to have your favorites. So be it, Mexican, Italian, Indian, Chinese or even the all- american hamburger, it's all there.

With charm un-rivaled, Restaurant Row will also delight your senses with it's visual festive and colorful walkways and fountain adorned courtyards.

Here are some favorites to try.

The more I was reading the more it was getting obvious that this was not a reading for a hungry person. Actually, I did not think I was hungry until I got to that list of cuisines...

My wife told me not to dig into the fridge at night. It is 1:25 AM, so technically this is morning. Does this qualify or I can later say that you are to blame (LOL)

I don't suppose they will deliver to Eugene, will they?

Hi Jon, Blame it entirely on me. Thanks for dropping by and go ahead, hit the frig. It is Sunday back where you are and and it is a day of rest and just say you needed to keep up your strength to watch the olympics.lol

Fred, Out here, it is very possible. Some of the take out places wouldn't know where Eugene is so they will just get in their car and drive. The kid disappears for 3 days and comes back and said you gave him a $10.00 tip. Well, we can imagine I suppose, lol. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer in the take out department. LMAO

Katsu Sushi and Teppan grill!  Ummmm.  Sounds really yummy.  I'm missing the Hawaii food.. especially fresh ahi sashimi.

OK...fess up! How many have you been too?

Hi Susie, Not to me especially, I don't eat seafood,:-)

Hi Joan, I was there this past week. Only a couple since I don't eat seafood, and I don't like mexican very much. The Mining Company is good , the sports bar is great for a hamburger, the Italian place is OK and the and the Coffee house is wi-fi hot spot so that always works, :-). I am no good at being a  food critic though because I am not that into food that much. I like what I like and otherwise, If I could, I would take food in tablet form, lol.

William,
This is one to print and stash in the glove compartment.

Hi William....I love this place and we had my daughters  16th Birthday at the Earthquake Cafe...I don't see it on your list, so maybe it isn't there anymore.  I haven't been to one of the Restaurants since before I moved to Europe, but I pass them all the time :)

Hi William,

Great idea, sharing all of these in one place. You know I'm not exactly sure the location of the restaurant row in San Marcos, but I'll look for it when I down your way.

Hey MR. William,
Great information, but seems that you like Mexican food too eh ? :) there are some good and it seems very popular these days, :)

William, Thank you for the nostalgia.  It brings back many fond memories.  I'm sure it has changed alot in the last 18 years!

Hi William:

Hmmm.  Those are making me hungry.  I guess it's time for a snack.  What an amazing array of restaurants in such a small area.

Thanks for the great post.

What a variety of food! I love food William :) What about the ice cream shops? lol!

Hi Cynthia- They do a really nice job of marketing the place with a nice booklet containing all the restaurants and their specialties listed.

Hi Kathy-I didn't see it and it is no longer listed in the marketing brochure. I look on line and see where they moved to. What I failed to mention in the post that one reason why this remains so popular is that it is contiguous to the Movie Theaters. The walkway over though is looking a bit trashed up and that may spell trouble ahead.

Hi Lynda- It is very easy to locate. It is right off the hwy next to the movie theaters. The exact address is 1020 San Marcos Blvd. It is off Route 78, exiting, West San Marcos Blvd.

Hi Ray, Actually Mexican is not one of my favorites, it may be the spices ,:-) But there is plenty of choices there.

Hi Pam- Glad you enjoyed this. It hasn't changed all that much. What it has maintained is all the ambiance. Naturally I forgotten to take my camera. Next time I am there, I will get the photos and put them on. I love eating outside and so many of the places offer that.

Hi Misty, It has a good number (18) actually but the Gas Lamp District Downtown San Diego  would blow you away. They may have the largest collection of higher end restaurants in one place in the whole state. It is amazing. 4 and 5 star quality is usual there.h and they have the prices to match,:-)

Woo Hoo, That is exactly what they need there, an ice cream parlor. Wouldn't you think someone would have thought of that. With the movie theaters next store, especially.

St Pete doesn't have a Restaurant Row, but it does hae numerous restaurants that you can walk to from any of the downtown condos.

Restaurant Row in San Marcos is a GREAT place to go... only problem is deciding where to eat.  My children suggested that we have appetizers in one place, the main course in another and desert at a third!  It turned out to be a very international meal!

Hi Susan, It is much less a problem for me, not eating sea food, and ambivalent about Asian or Mexican, lol. What I like the most there is the wonderful ambiance and atmosphere that was established. And the Wi-Fi.
