Hope Ranch Properties- Living in Hope Ranch
Hope Ranch is one of the most exclusive places to live in Santa Barbara. With it's amazing natural
beauty, perfect climate and abundant resources, I imagine it didn't take long for the areas first known inhabitants, a couple different tribes of Coastal Indians, to call it home. Named after Thomas Hope who purchased the land in 1861 to raise sheep, Hope Ranch is now comprised of approximately 686 homes and estates, most on one to three acre lots.
Homeowners enjoy a lake (Laguna Blanca), tennis courts, a polo field, 26 miles of equestrian trails and private access to a beach. Hope Ranch has a long history as a recreational destination including some associated with historic events. In 1911 the first airplane flight over Santa Barbara lifted off at the polo field next to Lake Laguna Blanca and California's first flat track horse races were held in Hope Ranch. In the early 1900's during an air show at the Ranch, a daredevil pilot was the worlds first person to complete seven consecutive loops in his biplane, obtaining the world record, then promptly lost control and crashed into an oak tree. He was scraped and bruised but was able to walk away.
Today, Hope Ranch is one of the most desirable places to own a home in Santa Barbara with home prices exceeding all other areas with the exception of Montecito. Currently, prices start at 1.7 million and climb as high as 29 million. Here is a complete and updated list of all current properties for sale in Hope Ranch.
