Who hasn’t told me about Facebook advertising, marketing and networking – and a lotof it virtually FREE?!?!? Procter & Gamble, the world’s largest marketer, apparently hasn’t been utilizing one of the most well known social mediums today.. Facebook.
At my company we take full advantage of as much free advertising as we can possibly muster. That being said, I find it astounding that these larger companies haven’t utilized sites such as Craigslist or Facebook. CEO Robert McDonald “seems to have woken up to the fact that he cannot keep increasing P&G’s ad budget forever.” In the past two years P&G’s increased their ad spending by 24% (as of October 2011) but within this same time frame sales only increased 6%. This really shows you how social networking/advertising/free or virtually free on-line actions are impacting businesses….
When questioned about P&G’s staggering budget for ads, he simply replied “There are just so many different media available today and we're quickly moving more and more of our businesses into digital. And in that space, there are lots of different avenues available.” In my business practices, I take his word to heart, but with free website advertising! Why pay more to get your name out?
