Social Media's Effect on Interpersonal Relationships

I was sitting here tonight in my Wood Ranch home with my laptop, the TV with a kids' program, my two young grandchildren intently watching it and found myself chuckling as to the ludicrous of the scene. A Simi Valley REALTOR living in a Wood Ranch townhome thinking about the social media issue.

Now, A.J. and Kyra and I have plenty of interaction, verbal communication, hugging and cuddling. But, I thought to myself, "Self, this scene is not unusual." The world has become part of technology, no PR, if you will, and no intra-face communication.

Pre-real estate and my entire real estate career working with people in Simi Valley properties definitely is the people business...face to face...is this a dying breed? Some part of the population doesn't even know how to talk with people face to face. First it was behind the computer, then behind voice mail, the texting. Now it's called "social media."

Here's my prediction...a whole new class of people using these non face-to-face technological advances are not going to know how to handle interpersonal relationships and have a lack of skill in face-to-face communications. We are advocating hermit-like, loner behavior. How can I evoke emotion over a text message or the computer when I want to convey, CONGRATULATIONS! we got the offer on the multiples for the Wood Ranch home you really wanted? Cannot be done!

I just attended a seminar this morning talking about the need to be on one of the social media networks...you know what...that would be giving up my rights for intra-face interaction. I think I just decided, "No..." at least for now. I enjoy the hugs and cuddling!

Do you want the social media or do you like to hear my voice?
