NASCAR Nation: Yes He Kahne - Recap of Sonoma Spring Cup Race 2009

Kasey Kahne wins the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway on June 21, 2009.

Holy smokes, folks! Another great race. Lots of spinning, lots of rubbin' and lots of smoke. After a couple of last minute caution flags and shoot-out style restarts, Washington State's very own Kasey Kahne ended a year long winless streak to edge out Tony Stewart for the checkered flag at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway this afternoon. The Tasmanian Devil himself, Marcos Ambrose, ran a fantastic race and ended up 3rd. This is why I love the road race format. You never know what you're going to end up with. A spinout on a road race doesn't necessarily bring out the caution flag. And we had lots of spinouts without yellow flags, believe me. Even after a penalty through pit row for speeding, Jimmie Johnson ended up 4th. Jeff Gordon was guilty of speeding on pit road as well and, after serving his lap through pit row at pit row speed under green, he managed to battle his way to finish in the top 10 at 9th. Points standings still stay pretty much the same, with Tony Stewart in 1st, Jeff Gordon 2nd and Jimmie Johnson in 3rd. Next Sunday (June 28th), we go back to the east coast for racing at Loudon, New Hampshire beginning at 1:30pm EST on TNT. See you there!

LOL ! .... great recap and I LOVE the title ;o)

It's fun, Sheldon.  You should really check out NASCAR.  It is so much more than just going around in circles and turning left for 4 hours.  It's more akin to Chess because there is so much strategy involved along with talent.  You have to plan your strategy several moves ahead.

Heather, I love reading your blog as I know exactly what's going on in NASCAR.  You keep me up to date.  Love it!

I'm glad you enjoy it, Sandy.  Thank you.
