Topanga Nights 2008 -- Movies Under the Stars

Topanga summer nights are a mix of cooling breezes, singing frogs, and wandering coyotes. This Sunday, July 20, you can throw a movie and picnic into that scene for Topanga Nights.

Topanga Nights

Dianne Porchia has once again put together two nights to gather up on the Topanga Community House Ballfield to hear music, eat and share a good movie. This fundraiser will benefit the Topanga Community Club.

This week's entertainment lineup features slide guitar blues by Jimmy Lee as well as the rock-blues groove of Jim Crawford and The Hot Toddies. Brother to the Night will be the DJ before the movie.

This week's Movie -- Men In Black

Elaine:  Looks like this will be a good Localism post.  Good move.  Also... have not seen you in a while... ( waving... waving at you... <grin> )  Hope you are well...

This sounds like a lot of fun!  I wish we could put one together here.

Karen Anne -- I am -- actually on the road with the family as we speak!  It's been a bit busy lately, but GOOD business busy!  I'm so happy you stopped by and hope you are well, too!

Mel - It was well attended last summer.  This is the second summer that Dianne has worked hard to put this together.  I am looking forward to it.

Hi Elaine,  this sounds like a blast and for a good cause.  I hope you are having a great summer

Hi Elaine, I love these outdoor events PLUS you all even include a movie. When I was in college they did this too on summer nights and with a blanket on the grass it was a cool experience. If you go I know it will be a fun event. Enjoy!! Post more Elaine. We all love hearing from you when you get the chance. I know I especially do. You're my Topanga expert!! : )

Elaine, This sounds like a blast for the whole family. I hope you are doing well. I've missed you.

Looks like I'll miss it by a couple days, E. I'm sitting here in my father in law's house in Simi Valley. I think I'm about 5 to 10 minutes from you. We'll be heading down to Encinitas this afternoon. Can't believe that we are going to miss each other by a day. The boys have been furious for most of the trip thus far, so maybe it's best you make their acquaintance at a later date anyway. Who knows, though, if the shrieking doesn't stop soon, you might just have a couple of new additions to your family waiting in the shed upon your return. Drive safely, Elaine :)

Judy - The Community House is our "gathering place" and it is a great cause.  I hope your summer is going well and you are getting a chance to play.

Gary - There is nothing like a summer evening!  Thanks for your nice words.

Mana - I've missed you too!  It's a good chance for the kids to run around in a safe and beautiful place, and then settle down to enjoy.

Paul - I hope you have a good drive, too, little brother.  Unbelievable that our timing could be so completely off, as we will be pulling in tonight.  Shrieking or not, I would have loved to meet the family -- remember, I've already been through that stage and I can laugh now!  Go ahead and leave them in the shed.  You can pick them up on the way home.  You will pick them up on the way home, right?

Sure sis. We'll try to remember to swing by for them on the return leg. Did I mention we are extending the trip indefinitely? Shouldn't be any longer than a month or two. Cool?

Elaine- this is a very cool idea...I would love doing something like this in my are...I would add to my list though, bring bug spray for the mosquitos!

Paul - Cool.

Jeremy - Good thought!

I was vicariously frustrated for you and Paul after reading the exchange above.  I hope to meet both of you in person someday, and I really thought you would have a face-to-face meeting this week.  As for the August Topanga movie night, I can't make it - it's on my birthday.

Elaine, It sounds like a lovely evening.  I love just about anything under the stars on a warm night out!

( 07/17/08 02:53PM ) — Rich Dansereau Loan Officer Knoxville TN

This sounds like a wonderful event! I will be posting on Knoxville's version of this soon. I hope you have a lot of fun; those are two great flicks!

( 07/17/08 04:00PM ) — C Tann-Starr

Elaine, that sounds lovely! I loved that movie. Great fun. They also filmed parts of it in my neck of the woods, Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Cool!

The long awaited Topanga Nights movies are here!  Wish I could be there to sit on a blanket under the stars with you, Twin :)   Of course, then I might have to listen to Paul's shrieking kids.  Is there wine?

( 07/17/08 07:19PM ) — Danny Thornton

Elaine, this sounds like it will be a blast. And I love the movie choice.

( 07/18/08 07:47AM ) — C Tann-Starr

Mmm... I've really need to get out of state more... I'm thinking Noah the Noble and Stephen the Destroyer would be great entertainment for Paul's little pookies. With my minions around, they'd be too busy to shriek. :-)

Isn't this great? Southport started a family movie night once a month. They could do it every week and people would come. It's right across from the City pier on the Waterfront so the atmosphere is wonderful.

Thanks fro sharing.

Hi E!  Summer movie nights are so much fun and Topanga picked some great titles!

Glad you are home safe from vacation!  Missed you!

Jason - We will all meet someday!  I'll be thinking of you on your big day.

Carole - I love it when the cool of the evening takes over.

Rich - I will look for your post.  It's such a nice community idea.

C- It is a really fun movie -- you can't go wrong with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones

Lisa - I'd share my wine with you!  The kids would be adorable and you know it!

Danny - It's one of those movies I never get tired of watching.

C - Your minions sound quite intriguing.  I have a feeling that with your's and Paul's together, the show would not be on the movie screen.

Vicki - That does sound great.  People are always trying to find a nice place to take the kids and this would be perfect.

Amanda - It's weird being away from the Rain for a few days!  We had fun, but I am glad to be back.

( 07/18/08 09:16PM ) — Kim Wood REALTOR(R), PA

Yay! You've been at the bottom of my subscribed list for too long - girl!!!  This sounds like so much fun!!!  Hopefully not too hot!  Nice to see you posting :)

Kim - Thanks!  Today is starting out pretty foggy.  I've got so much to post about here, if I could just get that first sentence on the screen....

Hi Elaine:-) So is Paul still in your trunk, or ... wait, was it Mandy's trunk? I am so lost!
Good to have yah back!

Inna - It's what's in Paul's trunk....don't ask too many questions.  It's better that way!  Good to see you, too.

( 07/27/08 01:07PM ) — JL Boney, III

I love outdoor gatherings like this. We have outdoor movies at a park in downtown Columbia in the Fall. Take care.

JL - Have fun this summer.  Nothing like an evening out.

What a great night!  Yes, the first thing I thought of was "ya'll better bring some bug spray" as mentioned by Jeremy...the second thing I thought of was "can you bring booze beverages!"  Hope you had a fantastic evening and made lots of money for the cause!

Elaine - You know I love Topanga. We will meet at Abuelita's for a drink yet!

Antoinette - Which ever beverage compliments your picnic is just fine.  I think it went very well!!

Tom - YES WE WILL!

Sounds like TONS OF FUN!!!  Jefferson Day allows NO alcoholic beverages, which is the New Jersey way.
