With record summer heat Saturday's BBQ in Twain Harte will make for a perfect summer evening and supports local community projects.

The Twain Harte Rotary Club will hold its annual deep pit barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Eproson Park Ball Field in Twain Harte. "The featured item is slow roasted beef that is so tender you won't even need a knife," said B.J. Sibley, one of the event organizers. Rotarians gather the night before to burn one and a half cords of wood down to embers.
The beef, rubbed with a secret recipe of herbs and spices and covered in burlap bags, is then stacked into the pit, sealed and slow roasted for about 15 hours. "The result is tender, delicious barbecue, which will be served with salad, beans, bread and ice cream," Sibley said. A silent auction, prize drawings and old-fashioned cakewalk also will be held.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Food service begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m. or until the food runs out. For this Saturday only, the Concert in the Pines will be held one hour later than usual, beginning at 7 p.m. and taking place on the ball field rather than at the bandstand.
As always there is no charge for the music, which will be provided by Silvermoon Allstars presenting classic rock and roll. Barbecue tickets are $17.50 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Family Barbershop on Joaquin Gully Road, by calling 586-4389 or from any Twain Harte Rotarian.
The barbecue is a fundraiser for annual high school scholarships and other community projects. "Barbecue tickets always sell out, so it is a good idea to get them early," Sibley said. "Tickets will be sold at the door, however they are very limited."

Jim, you've made my mouth water...I love BBQ and Twain Harte sounds like they are putting on the event of the year with this BBQ. I would love to pop over but one of my past clients is getting married and I will be attending their wedding on Saturday. Have a dinner plate on me...yum!
