Hillside Letters

Hillside letters, mountain monograms, or geoglyphs are letters craved or built into mountains or hillsides as a sort of landmark that can be seen in cities or towns around this country. California has 64 hillside letters with The University of California's big "C", as seen here, at 70 ft high. It was the first ever to be constructed, and was built in 1905 by students of the university.

West Covina city officials will consider placing "WC" on a prime location, a hillside, within the city to honor its 88th birthday. Some are calling this a bad idea in light of a budget deficit facing the city at this time. City officials however, are hoping that private enterprises fund this project and they wouldn't have to use taxpayers money.


We hear the words financial crisis, budget cuts, recession, and furloughs up and down the air waves and yet government spending is at an all time high. Is this a sound investment, or is this a useless project that benefit only the few? Granted, it is a tourist attraction, but...
