Whittier Christmas Parade, Saturday, December 11, 2010, 10am to 12pm
This year's theme will be "Community Pride" and it definitely shows in the line-up: Grand Marshal will be James West, CEO of Whittier Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, and many of Whittier's most prominent organizations are this year's title sponsors (PIH, Bright Health Physicians, Whittier Daily News, Whittier Host Lions Club, Rick's Drive In & Out Burgers, CareMore, to name just a few).
According to Sandra Hahn, president of the Whittier Uptown Association and Owner of Uptown Whittier's Crepes & Grapes, there will be 12 divisions with a total of 135 entries. Parade announcers are Kyle Koestner, owner of Uptown Whittier's healthy eatery Fenix 5-4, Maria Claver as a representative of the Whittier Conservancy (which, by the way, will be holding a Candlelight Walk this Thursday, December 9, at 7pm to explore the Whittier College Hills Historic District), and David Krake, a member of the Whittier Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Whittier Uptown Association will also hand out Spirits Awards, honoring exceptional community involvement. The award for Philanthropy will go to Mary Hanson, the Education Award will go to Ken LaVigne of La Serna High School, and the Local Celebrity Award will go to KABC reporter Danny Romero.
This year's line up is truly spectacular, featuring so many local organizations, schools, and public officials. I hope you will be able to witness this wonderful parade, but just in case you can't be there, tune in to 97.1 AMP Radio the morning of the parade, and check back with my blog for a photo update.
Happy Holidays!
See you around town!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Frymyer
