Cucumber Gulch in Breckenridge, CO

Cucumber Gulch nature preserve is one of the most iconic, exceptionally gorgeous places in the Rocky Mountains. Located between the Town of Breckenridge, Colorado and the Ten Mile Range, this 77 acre nature preserve is one of the best kept natural secrets in the United States. This delicate ecological treasure contains fen wetlands, which have been created and maintained by natural groundwater. According to the Town of Breckenridge, this location is an Aquatic Resource of National Importance designated by the Environmental Protection Agency. It has been said that what exists in this reserve would take approximately 10,000 years to re-create. Because of this, the Town Council of Breckenridge and the Breckenridge Open Space Advisory Commission protect it with every resource possible while allowing a limited number of outdoor enthusiasts to experience the natural bounty that the area exudes through hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and nordic skiing trails. Dogs and other domesticated animals are not allowed in an effort to protect the multitude of wildlife that call this wonderful alpine environment home, including birds, beaver, moose, deer, mountain lions, fish, and even a state endangered amphibian named the Boreal Toad.

One of the most expansive mountain views in the state of Colorado (and possibly the entire U.S.) can be seen from a ridgeline on the edge of Shock Hill Subdivision at a location which we affectionately refer to as "The Rock." Enjoying the vista at this location can only be compared to sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon and makes all that view the Ten Mile Range and Breckenridge Ski Resort from here absolutely breathless.

The photo on our profile and our agent website originates from The Rock at Cucumber Gulch, just a small testimonial to why this is one of our favorite places that we have ever had the privilege to see and frequently visit.
