While the Denver Metro area has some decent Italian food...lets face it....Italian is not our best ethnic food experience (surprisingly...pizza has come to the forefront and Denver is now certainly one of the ten best pizza cities in America).
Here in Highlands Ranch you need to travel a little to find a good Italian meal. (please keep in mind...I am an Italian boy born in New York City...so I am a little jaded when it comes to good Italian food). One place that is worth a short drive is La Dolce Vita in Castle Pines North.
La Dolce Vita is a traditional Southern Italian family style restaurant....this is not a fancy small plate style restaurant! Childhood favorites like Lasagne, Fettuchine Alfedo, Penne Rustica and Ravioli can be had at reasonable prices ($13-19 on the dinner menu). I judge all Southern Italian restaurants by there Eggplant Parmigiana (my all time favorite meal) and it is quite good here. The appetizer menu is exactly what you would expect from an Italian restaurant...fried Calamari, Antipasto and Mozzarella Caprese (Mozzarella and ripe tomato...yum). The lunch menu is very well priced and offers a nice selection of options.
La Dolce Vita has a nice children's menu that includes that includes Italian and American food choices for only $5.95...so do not be afraid to take the kids along. Live music on Weds, Thurs and Sat nights from 6:30-9pm makes me feel like I am back in NYC in an intimate setting listening to music and enjoying a wonderful meal.
If you live in Highlands ranch, Lone Tree or Castle Pines you do not need to drive to Denver for good Italian...just head to La Dolce Vita.
