5 Things To Do in Highlands Ranch In Below Zero Weather

Originally posted on my Denver Real Estate & Relocation Blog at: 5 Things To Do in Highlands Ranch in Below Zero Temps

Here we are on our 2nd day of Sub Zero Temps and 2nd day of no school for Douglas County kids.

You were probably cooped up indoors all day yesterday and you are ready to get out. If you can brave to cold and it is safe for you to drive here are 5 ideas to get out of the house today, with or without the kids. Most of these ideas are right in Highlands Ranch but I did venture a little further in a few.

1. See a Movie. The AMC Theater in Highlands Ranch is open and there are 24 theaters to entertain you. That’s 2 hours down.

Want to be a bit more adventurous? Drive over to The WildLife Experience at Lincoln and Peoria. There are movies schedules all day and you can couple that with a walk through of the museum.

2. Go to the Rec Center. Not to work out, but to play. All 4 HRCA rec centers in Highlands Ranch are open and there are a variety of things to do. The indoor pools are open and the gyms all have open gym time today. Westridge has the sport court gym – great for soccer/lacrosse, and the other 3 are hard court to shoot some hoops. If you are swimming, bring your hairdryer to be sure you are not leaving with a wet head. Here’s the link to the gym schedules so you can see what is Open Gym time where & when. 3. Go bowling – the AMF Bowling at the corner of University & County Line Rd is open and Brunswick Zone bowling in Lone Tree is always very fun as well.

4. Paint Your Own Pottery – The Arts on FIre studio in Highlands Ranch Town Center allows you to pick out your own piece of pottery and paint it to make it uniquely yours.

5. Jewelry making - Beadniks in Highlands Ranch Town Center and String Beads in Eastridge have enough beads to keep everyone busy and you can spend the day inside making jewelry. Perhaps a Valentine’s gift?

Whatever you do if you are going out, make sure your car is safe, full of gas and ready to keep you warm just in case (have blankets, a charged cell phone, etc).

Frost bite can begin in these temps within 10 minutes to exposed skin so any trips outside should be brief and bundled up. Stay warm, be safe!
