Highlands Ranch CO Backcountry Trails
Winter Closure of Wildcat Mountain Trail System
From January 1st through April 1, 2008 the Wildcat Mountain Trail System, east of Monarch Blvd is closed. This land of 8,200 acres, the Backcountry Wilderness Area is a traditional winter habitat for around 400 elk. The closures allow the elk to winter in more natural state with the least amount of human interference possible. You can find more information about elk and other Colorado Wildlife from The Colorado Division of Wildlife website http://wildlife.state.co.us/
When driving on Monarch Blvd between Highlands Ranch and Castle Pines, take a look to the East and you may spot herds of elk strolling about in this area.
