
Take a little walk with me, following the path the hubs and I took last Thursday. See how there is a little bit of color left in the second picture? The plant right next to it has started the change, red leaves and stems...
All of the wildflowers were hanging on to their last bit of color, their petals shriveling, turning brown and curling under....the sunbeam shown perfectly on the far right middle shot, enhancing the difference between the beginning to change, and not quite ready to change leaves on the fallen branch.
Most telling was the Virginia Creeper, the one in my yard started to change almost 2 weeks ago, this one appears to have just started! The cottonwood on the trail is catching up to my neighbors tree, in offering up some gold, and, yes, it looks like Fall is here...
"Peak weekend" for aspen color in the mountains is usually around the second week of September, (I know this because I lived in the high country for many years, and it always "falls" on or near mine and the hubs birthdays!) If you are planning a trip to the mountains to see the color, watch the news, they always keep track, but keep that time frame open, as once it peaks, it's over...
