Living in Hawaii, I get to travel outside of the islands about once a year. We always try to make it a really nice vacation. Two years ago we went to DisneyWorld, last year we went to a resort in Mexico, and this year we went to Aspen, Colorado. From start to finish, this was the best vacation we had and I want to take the time to put some businesses names out there that helped make it so great.
When we arrived at Denver, we drove up to Aspen. It started to snow pretty hard about 50 miles outside of Denver. Once we got to Aspen it was no longer snowing and you could see all the lights throughout the town. After looking at several reviews, we had decided to stay at St Regis Aspen. Upon arriving to the St Regis we realized that it was truly in the perfect spot. It was an easy walk to the Gondola lift for Aspen Mountain and a very easy walk to shopping. Throughout the stay the St Regis proved that it was the best hotel we have stayed at (and we have stayed at some pretty nice ones). The room was cozy and clean, the service was excellent, and the rate was fair. They have a SUV to drive you around town so you really do not need a car when you are there. The stay included free breakfast and a free massage each day.
While we were in Aspen we went on a carriage and sleigh ride with Aspen Sleigh and Carriage. They picked us up at the St Regis in a carriage and took us to a secluded place in the mountains for the sleigh ride. It was beautiful traveling through the forests overlooking Aspen. The only downfall was that it was a little cold.
Going into the trip I had always heard that "everything in Aspen is so expensive". We went one night and ate at Hickory Ribs Restaurant. The food was great for a very reasonable price. The breakfast at the St Regis was very good and since it was free they had the best price.
The Spa at the St Regis was excellent. My wife enjoyed all the treatments. The only part I truly enjoyed was the Oxygen Room. I seemed to get short of breathe quit a bit up there and they had a room with day beds, a fireplace, and hook ups for you to get some oxygen. I always felt refreshed after leaving there. In fact, that was the only downfall was having a hard time with the altitude at times.
If you get a chance to make it to Aspen, I would highly recommend the St Regis Aspen and doing a sleigh ride.
