Governor Hickenlooper has declared January as Colorado Radon Action Month. The Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment is providing coupons for reduced-cost test kits at www.coloradoradon.info.
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas created by the radioactive decay of uranium in the soil. Long-term exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer in smokers. Since the kits require closed windows and doors January becomes one of the best times to test for radon.
