My husband claims that he overheard someone say this in the grocery store one day. He might have made it up, but it does show how short our summers can be. Nevertheless, it is a glorious time of year! I put plants on my deck from Memorial Day to Labor day, but keep sheets handy to cover them up in case we have frost. Those plants make the most glorious display. I guess they know the season is short and they all bloom at once. The perennials in my garden do well if I am careful in choosing which ones I buy.
I was excited the other day to spot some crocus blooming. I know, you are way ahead of us, but after about 6 months of winter, we are ready for a little spring, although we hate to see the ski areas close for the season.
It also happens to be real estate season. We have a saying in Summit County; "we came for the winter and stayed for the summer", and that is the way it happens. People enjoy it so much here in the winter that they come back in the summer, and many never leave. Or they find a way to come back permanently. I do laugh when my clients and I are looking at a home and they ask me if it is air conditioned. I just open a window! The Floridians have a thing about ceiling fans though, and can't seem to do without them.
