Have You Hugged A Home Buyer or Home Seller Today?

I have had clients that are major huggers, and that's OK with me.  I'm a hugger too!

The clients I usually hug are family, friends from church or the neighborhood, or people going through an especially rough time.

But hugging isn't always recommended in a professional relationship. :-( So I've found other ways to give the comfort and encouragement of a hug without getting physical.  They usually boil down to slowing down, taking some time, and communicating.

For instance, I had a buyer who found something wrong with every house I showed her. She said one house had too much grass to take care of, and the next house had too much rock where there should be grass. My first thought might not have been completely kind, but then I realized, this lady needs a hug.

So I took her to lunch and had a heart to heart talk about what her concerns really were. It turned out that she was scared (understandable, a 70 year old lady leaving her home of 50 years after losing her husband). And she felt guilty about moving on. I just listened, nodded, asked questions, and promised not to rush her.

She found a house she loved the next day.

So give people a hug when you can - a little extra time, concern, understanding. You'll set them free to make those hard decisions, and give them courage to act on them. And your client relationships will blossom.
