Masters of browned bread???
NOPE, this is a group that helps you gain confidence in public speaking. I was never terrified of speaking in public, but that didn't mean I enjoyed it. Now through the Toastmasters group I belong to I am actually starting to look forward to my speaking opportunities. If you are terrified that's okay, you can progress at your own pace, go to meetings and watch or participate. The manuals you get when you join are filled with incredible information and helpful tips and you also get a monthly magazine that is worth the cost of membership, which is minimal. There are many speaking opportunities; scheduled speeches that you prepare for and table topics which are impromptu speeches, as well as leadership and evaluation roles. It is a comfortable safe environment to gain confidence.
Your peers evaluate your speech and give you tips to improve. There are regional, state and national competitions if you want to take it to the next level. It is an impressive addition to a resume, the ability to present yourself well can make a huge difference in your career options. I encourage everyone to check out a local Toastmasters group it is an inexpensive, fun, self-improvement organization.
We meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 6:15 PM in Pueblo at the Security Federal Credit Union on Abriendo, but some groups meet for breakfast or lunch, check out the website and see if there is a group near you. I believe that we should never stop trying to improve ourselves and this is a great way to do that. www.toastmasters.org Written by Pam Simmons
