Bethel, Connecticut senior citizens can receive discounts on their real estate property taxes, but they must apply by May 15, 2007, to be eligible for the tax relief for the July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008 property tax year. Certain income requirements must be met in order to qualify.
Property tax discounts for seniors range from 10% - 75%, depending on income, as detailed in the chart below:

Eligible seniors must apply through the through the town's tax collector's office between February 1 and May 15, 2007.
The town of Bethel is also considering a plan that would freeze the real estate property taxes for eligible seniors, aged 70 or over, which would eliminate the worry of seniors being forced out of their homes due to rising property taxes. A recent state law was passed in October, 2006, allowing the freeze of property taxes, and Bethel's Board of Finance is now looking into the possibility of incorporating this into the town.
